Sliding cover at the opening to keep shavings and dust inside the sharpener and out of your bag. At the end of the dial is a button you can press to eject lead if the tip breaks off inside the sharpener. On the side of the dial you'll find an angle indicator marked with lines. Turn the dial to the number of lines you want, listed below.
Settings 1 and 2 are good for colored pencils and other soft leads like charcoal
3 and 4 are recommended for softer graphite pencils
5 will give a very sharp, long point and works best with medium to hard graphite pencils
